ROM 090909

 

Initially we wanted to have our marriage registration on September 20th 2009 in conjunction with Q's birthday, and remembrance of the surprise proposal. However no marriage registrars would be open on that day. The offices suggested we do it on September 9th (090909) instead, and there were still slots available. Thinking it wouldn't be such a bad idea, we said to ourselves, "Why not?"

And so we did. We registered ourselves at the KL Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, located in the center of town.

 
In Chinese numerology, the number 9 is a homophone of the word for "longlasting" (久), and as such is often used in weddings.

It was a fun-filled event. News of this auspicious day was all over headlines the next morning as couples not just in Malaysia but all over the world got married. Our place had 98 other couples, making it a total of 99, that extra special.

 

Thanks to our parents, brother and sisters who came from out of town, and friends who took time off work just to be there with us. It was a joyous and blissful day. There was cake for every couple and we also received gifts.

The day was truly a special day for us, one which we had expected a lot less. 🤗

And for that we are very grateful.
